Happy Thursday! The Question of the Day was: Would you like to visit Europe? The first graders completed their matryoshka nesting dolls for morning work. Soon thereafter, Grayson shared his Student of the Week board. We learned that he would like to be a spy, he has two lovely kitties, and one of his talents is tubing.
The super bonus word on the Unit 16 spelling test was awkward. During phonics, we reviewed short vowel sounds. After a recess break, the first graders responded in writing to a prompt about the story Under the Lemon Moon. The prompt required them to take a position and explain why it was chosen.
Today's math lesson presented "Make a Ten" as another strategy for recalling sums. We will look at this in greater detail on Monday. Before heading to lunch, we also read a book about even and odd numbers.
Following lunch recess, we read the book Hot Air Henry. The students then worked on a couple fun hot air balloon activity sheets before reading a science book about solids and liquids with a partner.
We then packed up our belongings and went upstairs to P.E. Finally, it was time for the event everyone had been eagerly anticipating all day: Taste of Europe! Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped make this event possible. Ask your child what his/her favorite food was during the Taste! Next week we will begin learning about Africa, our next Continent of the Month.
Also, please note that as we begin the third quarter of the school year, the Room 104 specials class schedule will change slightly:
