Transportation (during in-person learning)
Please call the Bell School main office at 773-534-5150 if you have any questions or concerns about bussing procedures and policies.
Stop Information: The Chicago Board of Education assigns pick-up and drop-off points to all students in the Options Department who ride school busses. This information is sent out in August. There are no home pick-ups or drop-offs.
Riding Time: The Board of Education accepts a 90-minute riding time for all students.
Late Bus: If your child’s bus is late in the morning or afternoon, please call the bus company. Be prepared to tell the dispatcher your child’s name, route number, and pickup/drop-off site. The dispatcher can radio the bus to determine where the bus is and when it is expected to arrive at your stop. We cannot radio the busses from school.
Riding a Different School Bus: No student is allowed to ride on a bus route other than the one to which he/she has been officially assigned.
Child Not Riding School Bus: If your child will not be riding the school bus on a given morning, please call your child's bus company to inform them. If your child will not be riding on a given afternoon, please send a note to school informing us of the afternoon plans. Include your child’s name, your child’s room number, the date, and the route number in the note. Without a note from the parent, students will be placed on the bus at dismissal.
If you must notify us by phone, please call the school in the morning so that both the bus attendants and classroom teachers can be notified of the change in dismissal plans.. Due to the hectic schedule at the end of the day, students will not be allowed to call home to verify arrangements.
Children who are not riding the bus will be dismissed with the walkers and should be picked up outside in the garden behind the auditorium at dismissal. If you are picking up your child before the end of the day, your child must get an early dismissal and be signed out in the main office.
Whether you pick up your child regularly or occasionally, please wait for your child OUTSIDE until the dismissal bell.
Bus Misbehavior: In order to insure a safe bus trip for all students, we expect appropriate behavior from all students. Please discuss proper bus behavior with your child.
Seat Belt Policy: Each student is required to wear a seatbelt for the entire bus trip to and from school. Any student who removes his/her seatbelt at any time during the bus ride may be suspended from bus service for a day. Please discuss bus safety with your child.
