Happy Wednesday! The boys and girls began the day with a spelling practice paper for morning work. After this, it was time to share news from Flat Stanley. We looked at emails showing some of Flat Stanley's adventures around the country and in England. Mr. Kosko joined us to share his adventures with Flat Stanley in St. Augustine, Florida. Among other things, Flat Stanley met Chance the Snapper! Ask your child for details.
We also continued learning about Martin Luther King. We started with the book Dream March. After this, the students sorted photos of schools, busses, playgrounds, etc. into then/now categories. They also decided whether a given set of statements about Dr. King were true or not. Finally, we sequenced events to create a timeline of Dr. King's life.
The specials class of the day was P.E. Lunch recess was on the south playground, but we took our afternoon recess on the north playground.
During math, we reviewed place value concepts from our current chapter. Ms. Whiting popped in during this time and we used the liquid fertilizer (our worm tea) on our classroom plants. We ran out of time to completely finish the chapter review in the math books, but I encouraged the children to do so at home in order to be best prepared for the test tomorrow.
In science, we watched a video clip about the states of matter, learned how to move like the molecules in these states, and created solid, liquid, and gas posters. Your child has brought his/her poster home today. Ask for an explanation!
Finally, we read our new reading book, The Story of Ferdinand, for the first time today. We shared some wonderings and talked about bullfights in Spain. Students received their copies of the book when they returned A New Coat for Anna to me. If your child still has the New Coat book or The Mysterious Giant of Barletta at home, please send it back to school. Thank you! There will be more Ferdinand-focused lessons just ahead.
