Happy Friday! The Question of the Day was: Did you come to Winter Family Night? It was fabulous to see so many of my first graders back in school yesterday evening. There were lots of snowflake activities to explore in Room 104 plus so many more things to see and do around the school.
Students selected a science activity sheet to complete for morning work. We then read the book Snowflake Bentley and looked at some of his amazing photographs of snowflakes. After this, it was time for Junior Achievement Day activities. Cecelia from AmeriCorps presented lessons about families and being part of a community. Some of the lessons reinforced what the students have been learning in financial literacy. Ask your child for details!
The specials class of the day was Music. Junior Achievement continued for about 30 minutes during that time. The students received several Junior Achievement items to take home. After this, it was time for the Unit 15 spelling test. The super bonus word was ramble as in Ms. Kaim has a tendency to ramble on when she writes the daily blog posts.
Greydon shared his Student of the Week board. We learned that he wants to be a commercial fisherman, he has a backyard ice skating rink, and one of his talents is jumping his bike.
At the end of the day, we looked at more snowflake photographs, learned how snowflakes form, and identified different kinds of snowflakes. The students then received a lesson in how to fold and cut a square piece of paper in order to make six-sided snowflakes. The results were beautiful! Ask your child for a lesson and make some more at home!
Enjoy the weekend!
