The Question of the Day was: Have you ever read a Magic Tree House book? We have lots of Jack and Annie fans in Room 104! To keep that interest going, each student received a book of his/her own. Enjoy! Read more in the series!
The super bonus word of the Unit 20 spelling test was scene. After the test. the students worked in their phonics books. We are just about finished with the long vowel lessons. The specials classes of the day were P.E. and Civics. Ask your child about the bubble people!
During math, we reviewed the concepts and strategies from Chapter 3. Books were sent home with students for another look before the test on Tuesday. We did not get to the very last page in the book. If nothing else, please take five minutes to work through the exercises on that page. We focused on not only knowing the right answer, but being able to show how that answer was determined.
The main activities in the afternoon were designed to prepare the class for Day 100 next Wednesday. The first graders listened to the book One Hundred Hungry Ants and acted out the different ways the ants arranged themselves. Ask your child to retell the story at home; he/she should have his own 100 ants to do so! Finally, we talked about BIG numbers, ending with a discussion about the number googol. Next Tuesday, we will make a googol for Room 104. Ask your child what this number should look like!
I can't wait to read everyone's 100 Page Books next week!
