Mark shared his Student of the Week board. We learned that he wants to be a rock star, two of his talents are math and running, and he has two little brothers.
The students focused on responsibility in civics class and they went shopping at the book fair during their library time. In math, the boys and girls took yesterday's lesson a step further by breaking apart two-digit subtrahends to subtract them from two-digit numbers. Ask your child to demonstrate this to you with the following problem: 83-17.
Taste of Asia was a huge hit. The students enjoyed savory and sweet treats from our continent of the month. They tried using chopsticks and modeled traditional clothing from different countries in Asia. Thank you to all the families that took part in this Taste. Ask your child what his/her favorite food item was today!
We took a second recess break after the Taste and read portions of Throw Your Tooth on the Roof outside. When we came back in the boys and girls completed a variety of activity sheets about parts of Asia. Topics included bamboo, animals in China, the Great Wall of China, Chinese characters for numbers, Mt. Everest, and a symmetry challenge featuring the Taj Mahal. We also watched giant pandas on a webcam from China.
Room 104 has been selected to lead the Pledge of Allegiance over the intercom next week! We will also visit the computer lab every day of the week to continue working on our life history timeline projects.
Have a great weekend!
