The Question of the Day was: Do you have a thermometer at home? Morning work was a winter-themed literacy packet. Everyone posed for pictures sitting under the cork tree with their Ferdinand puppets. Check out our Shutterfly site to see them. During our morning meeting, the students each received a kindness bingo card. on which to record the various ways they were kind to others during the day.
After this, we read the story Those Shoes in our Junior Great Books. Ask your child to tell you the story and share something he/she wondered about it!
We reviewed the almost doubles strategy and the commutative property for addition during math before using the Make a Ten strategy. This strategy will come into play again when we work with larger numbers.
The specials classes of the day were ASL and P.E. Ask your child to teach you how to sign the words taught in class.
We read two short books about Groundhog Day as well as the book MIxed: A Colorful Story by Arree Chung. During phonics, we practiced long vowel u skills and reviewed long a and long 1.
We prepared our passports for the next Taste by adding symbols for seven countries in Europe.
There were many acts of kindness today. Ask your child to show you his/her kindness bingo card and talk about it together!
Finally, the students received a special "Day Off Because It Is Just Too Cold" project to take home. Try blowing soap bubbles outside in our freezing weather! Your child should have the directions and super tiny bottles of bubble solution in a plastic baggy. You probably will have to make more soap solution; I did not realize the bottles would be so small. Let me know what happens!
Remember: NO SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY OR FRIDAY!
We do not know whether or not there will be school on Thursday. However, if there is school, there will be a substitute teacher in the classroom. Friday is a day of nonattendance for CPS students.
I will see everyone again on Monday, February 4!
