Happy Valentine's Day! It was great to read the letters the students wrote about how they were bucket fillers yesterday. The Question of the Day was: Are you happy that it is Valentine's Day?
After completing a hedgehog maze and word wheel, the first graders prepared cardboard boxes for a Day 100 station. Each box will be covered with 100 interesting words cut out of magazines.
During Junior Great Books, we read the story "Those Shoes" again. The students wrote what Jeremy might have been thinking when he decided to buy shoes that were too small for his feet. They shared their ideas with each other in class; now ask them to share with you!
Today's math lesson involved writing equations using repeated addition to find the total number of objects. Students should always ask themselves whether an answer makes sense, especially in word problems. We had to circle back and go over problems word by word together to figure out how to find the correct solutions.
After Library, it was time to share the love for Valentine's Day! The first graders played Valentine's Day Bingo, visited their buddies, and delivered cards to the mailboxes of their classmates. They also enjoyed the following stories: The Day It Rained Hearts, The Secret Life of Squirrels: A Love Story, and Slugs in Love.
We will learn about a BIG number in math tomorrow!
Parents, please check backpack mail for your Day 100 volunteer assignments! Please let me know if you have any questions.
