****Thank you to all the Room 104 parents who were able to attend the Bell School Curriculum Night for First and Second Grades. For those who were not able to attend, please check backpacks for an information packet.****
It was a day of surprises in Room 104! First, the students encountered a mystery box at the front of the room when they arrived. What could be inside? The boys and girls did a Quick Write to indicate their guesses. After sharing ideas, they learned that the box contained baby ladybugs. Ask your child to describe what the ladybug larvae looked like. But wait, there was more! A second mystery box was revealed and the guessing, sharing, and big reveal was repeated. Ask your child what was in the second box!
Another surprise took place in the afternoon. When the students returned from lunch, they immediately noticed that the fish tank next to Pinky’s now had residents. Two goldfish have joined our class menagerie! The boys and girls provided name suggestions. The fish will get their names tomorrow.
Following a spelling practice paper, the day’s reading lesson focused on how characters in the story made Chrysanthemum wilt or bloom. We extended the discussion by making connections to our own lives. The boys and girls were tasked with writing and drawing examples of times that others have made them wilt or bloom. This would make a great conversation starter at home.
During math, the class made quick name strips and then used the information to create a group sticker graph showing how many letters are in their first and last names. They also completed a Show What You Know about data.
The buddies returned at the end of the day to complete the paper people they started with the first graders yesterday. It won’t be long before the paper people will be holding first grade projects in the hallway!
The Unit 1 Spelling Test will take place tomorrow. Also, please remember to send completed homework back to school in the big manila envelope. Thank you!
