The first graders checked out the January Scholastic Reading Club order forms for morning work. Orders are due in school or online by Friday, January 18.
After reading the book All You Need for a Snowman, the boys and girls selected a picture of what they considered to be the best face for a snowman. They then wrote about their selections and their snowmen before sharing their writing pieces with each other.
During reading, we discussed interpretive questions about our current Junior Great Book story: Under the Lemon Moon. The students then drew a picture of Rosalinda giving her last lemon to the Night Man.
Today's math lesson focused on extending number patterns by counting on by tens or hundreds. The specials class of the day was P.E. During social studies, the first graders created mini books about celebrating the New Year.
We continued to investigate adding liquids to solids in science. The boys and girls made predictions concerning what would happen to candy canes when placed in cool water, warm water, and vinegar. We then tested this out and made observations about what actually happened. Ask your child for details about this!
The first graders will receive new reading books tomorrow!
