The Question of the Day was: Do you like to feel the wind? Morning Work was drawing snapshots of winter break experiences. From there, we moved on to reading/science./social studies/writing. We read a Russian folktale: The Gigantic Turnip. We also read the Scholastic News article "A Winter's Trip" to learn more about reindeer. Over a two-session time frame, the students worked on reading comprehension, text evidence skills, identification of main idea and details, and sentence structure. Responding to questions in complete sentences remains challenging for many students. We will keep working on this. Parents, please go over your child's work with him/her when it is sent home. Thank you!
Specials classes of the day were Music and Civics. During the latter, the students learned about the importance of rules and why we need them. During math, the boys and girls identified 10 more, 10 less, 100 more, and 100 less than a given number. We used our thousands chart poster to visualize the patterns. Today's science lesson focused on combining solids and liquids. We mixed observed salt and then mixed it with water. We will wait a few days and see if anything changes. Ask your child for details!
There will be another snowman activity tomorrow!
