The Question of the Day was: Is a hot dog a sandwich? Ask your child about his/her response and the reasons behind it!
After reading Snowmen at Night yesterday, the boys and girls drew a snowman, decided what he/she would wear, and wrote about his/her favorite thing to do at night. Midway through the process, they shared what they had completed thus far with a writing partner. Compliments and suggestions were exchanged. At the end of the writing session, the first graders shared their pieces with even more friends.
We continued the writing-centric morning with spelling practice and handwriting. Then, we moved on to math during which the students applied place value concepts to find equivalent representations of 3-digit numbers.
The specials classes of the day were ASL and Art. During science, the students pretended to be molecules in the different states of matter. They also created visual models to illustrate solid, liquid, and gas molecules. Ask your child to share his/her poster with you!
Finally, we looked at the wall map of the world and read an introductory book about Europe to begin our study of that continent. Tomorrow, we will learn about an animal that lives in northern Europe.
