The boys and girls in first grade are already becoming more adept at unpacking and taking care of their morning business. Prompts and reminders are still part of the routine, however. Practice makes progress!
After working on an I Spy activity sheet and participating in our morning meeting, the boys and girls completed a spelling practice paper. Then, we were called outside to take part in the school’s annual bus evacuation drill.
Today was the first day of financial literacy. Ms. Weindruch from Climb to Safety met her new class. They began by discussing needs and wants. The first graders learned that there are four needs. Ask your child to name them! It might help if he/she sang the song taught in class.
During math, the class worked together to create a group graph showing the number of letters in their names. They then transferred the data onto individual bar graphs.
Following lunch and library, the boys and girls worked on incomplete papers in their daily folders, read books about school, received a desk plan to help keep their desks in order, and began keeping track of lost teeth on a Lost Tooth Picture Graph. I know we will keep adding to this graph throughout the year. First grade is a prime year for teething!
We ended the day with Buddy Time! The fifth grade buddies joined us in the hallway to help their little buddies create life-size paper versions of themselves. When complete, the paper people will hang in the hallway outside the classroom.
