Thank you for participating in parent-teacher conferences yesterday. I look forward to thirty more fabulous weeks with my first grade friends!
We began the school day with a fun "Let's Make Words!" activity. The paper was sent home. See how many more words your child can make! The first graders also completed Student Self Evaluations. Please look over the paper with your child. His/her responses should make great conversation starters.
The first graders received their new math books today and took a Show What You Know. The focus of this unit is number sense and place value.
Of course the main event of the day was our trip to Lifeline Theatre to see a play based on the book Bunnicula. The first graders will read the book together next year when they are second graders.
After eating lunch in the classroom, the boys and girls wrote in their daily planners and enjoyed an extended Quiet Time. following art with Ms. Pearlmutter, we talked about the Pajama Drive that we will be participating in. All the students in the Options Department from Kindergarten to fifth grade will join us in this service project, just like they did with the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign. We set our classroom goal at 30 pajamas, but we'd love to give more. Thank you for your support!
Finally, we talked about our experience at the theatre today and each student wrote a review of the play. We tried our best to be more detailed with our writing this time. The reviews will become chapters in our field trip books. Ask your child about his/her favorite scene and favorite character in the play!
We will work on a special Thanksgiving writing project tomorrow.
