When the boys and girls entered the room this morning, they admired the poster made from the papers they had colored yesterday. We discussed the project and thought of ways we might do things differently next time.
The question of the day was: Have you ever voted for anything? Our fun fact of the day was: Barack Obama was our 44th president. The morning work was a coloring packet about voting. We watched a short video about voting and learned about the election process. After this, we took a mini field trip to an election polling place--the Bell School auditorium. The boys and girls sat in the seats and watched the voting taking place on the stage. Ask your child about this! Our last election activity was the creation of a Venn diagram to compare midterm and presidential elections.
This week's handwriting lesson focused on the D'Nealian lowercase letters f and b. Ask your child to show you the proper strokes for these letters!
During science, we observed our brassica plants for the last time. The plants have turned brown and the leaves are dry. The seeds in the seedpods are almost ready to be make new plants!
Other events of the day included creating art with Ms. Pearlmutter and taking the math test about shapes and fractions. The students noticed that the test was incredibly similar to the review pages completed yesterday.
In social studies/reading, we read The Goat in the Rug. This book describes how a Navajo weaver makes a rug. It is told from the viewpoint of the author, Geraldine. There is something surprising about Geraldine. Ask your child to tell you about it!
We will see a performance of Pete the Cat at the Copernicus Center tomorrow. This is our first field trip to see a play! Please send your child to school with a lunch from home. We will eat in the classroom when we return. Thank you!
