The first graders began the day by finding their new desk spots and receiving giant blue Ziplock bags. Coats, hats, scarves, and gloves will be placed in the bags during the day. Each student colored a part of a larger picture. The parts will be put together to create a fall poster.
The super bonus word on the Unit 8 Spelling Test was cooperate. After the test, we took a quick look at the Unit 9 words. The long e sound in the words is spelled either /ee/ or /ea/.
We reflected on the events in the month of October with the students sharing memories from the classroom.. After compiling an impressive set of ideas, the boys and girls chose which they wished to include in their memory books and began writing their own October chapters.
During math, we reviewed the skills and concepts covered in our geometry and fractions chapter. The boys and girls have brought home their books to better prepare for tomorrow's test.
The sticker store has been replaced by the stamper store during Quiet Time. Your child received a North America stamp if he/she completed his/her student planner page in the time given.
Following P.E., we read Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf and Little Tree. There will be an autumn leaf project coming up later this week!
At the end of the day, we focused on map skills and North America. First, each student set up a color key on an outline map of the world's continents. When we study a new continent, we will color that continent on the map. After this, we focused on our continent of the month. We used our Map Champ Atlas books to explore the the basic geographic features of North America.
Finally, the boys and girls took home their pumpkin plants today. I am quite confident the pumpkin plants are not in the best of shape anymore. Look for sturdier spider plants to come home tomorrow!
Thank you to everyone who has already sent back UNICEF boxes! If you have not already done so, please return the donations to school by the end of the week. The fifth grade buddies will help us count the money next Tuesday.
Tomorrow is Election Day. Be sure to speak to your children about the importance of voting. Thank you!
