Day 4: September 7, 2018
The Owl About Me posters were due today. This was the first time the first graders put homework in the work bin as part of their morning business. Many students also placed trip slips and media consent forms into the note bin.
After our morning meeting, we read the book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. The boys and girls colored, cut, and glued to create two-sided Chrysanthemum stick puppets. One side showed a happy mouse and one side showed a sad mouse. Chrysanthemum experienced different emotions at different points in the story. Ask your child to retell the story using his/her puppet to show how Chrysanthemum felt!
During math, the boys and girls created a group pictograph showing how many students have birthdays in each month. They then each colored pictures on individual pictograph activity sheets to record that information. Ask your child to tell you something he/she noticed on the graph!
The drizzle present during morning recess developed into rain showers that caused us to have indoor lunch recess again. The boys and girls were given the following choices for indoor recess: talking, drawing/coloring, and reading. Following lunch, the class enjoyed listening to the book Never Ride Your Elephant to School. Other afternoon activities included attending art class with Ms Pearlmutter and completing the “Spotlight on Me” projects started on Day 1.
Our day ended with Buddy Time. The fabulous fifth grade buddies helped their little buddies complete letters to their parents about the first week of school. Please look for the letter, the birthday graph, and the Chrysanthemum puppet in your child’s green home folder.
The Bell School Back to School Bash takes place tomorrow, September 8. Come have fun on the turf with your family and friends!
We will take the first steps in a yearlong writing project next week.
Fluffy wishes everyone a wonderful weekend!
