The Question of the Day was: Did you bring your autobiography to school? Twenty-eight mostly pajama-clad first graders responded yes and handed in their projects. I can tell I have some fantastic reading ahead of me!
Today's morning work was a Miss Rumphius-themed math paper. This was followed by an introduction to the Unit 34 spelling words which all have the suffix -ly. We then reflected on the many events that took place in the month of May. After a group brainstorming session, the students independently wrote the May chapters for their first grade memory books.
Inner Explorer practice focused on the emotions of frustration and calm. After this, we revisited the poem about the color blue in our Junior Great Books. The students wrote and shared their own poems about a color of their choice. Before going to lunch, the students finished their morning work papers and received a math book about measuring length in customary units.
Following recess and a quick HW Board time, we read more of The Hoboken Chicken Emergency. The students were then given a tour of the new Insects exploration tables at the back of the room. Then, they learned that our caterpillars had been busy this weekend. Most of them had become chrysalises! The boys and girls took a closer look in the cups and wrote observations.
Before going to STEAM class, we looked ahead to all the special things that will take place at school during the month of May. The boys and girls completed their final monthly calendar of events for first grade.
Tomorrow is Twins/Multiples Day!
