Happy Day After Hatch Day! Four more chicks hatched after school yesterday bringing our grand total to twenty chicks. There is an abundance of fluffy cuteness in the back of Room 104 now! The Question of the Day was: Would you like to hold a chick? You can surely surmise what everyone's response was! The students will have the opportunity to hold one of the little fluff balls tomorrow.
The boys and girls were introduced to Peanut, our tiniest chick who was the last one to hatch yesterday. They also generated a list of chick names. A ramp and upper level were added to the brooder. We wondered who would get to the top of the ramp first. It was exciting when one of the yellow chicks made it. We named it Champion. After this grand event, we read the book Chico the Brave.
Later in the day, we read several poems about eggs, hatching, and chicks. We also read the book Chicken Big after which the first graders wrote sequels to the story. Ask your child about the further adventures of Chicken Big!
During math, the boys and girls solved problems involving money by drawing coins and bills and acting out the problem. The specials classes of the day were the Circesteem Residency and P.E. We ended the day with a a penguin nest project.
The chicks will be ready for first graders to hold them tomorrow. Right now they are all asleep in the brooder!
