The Question of the Day was: Are you coming back to school for Family STEAM Night? I hope you are because there will many fantastic activities taking place tonight!
The first graders wrote spelling sentences and practiced their spelling words. They also spent some time on their First Grade Memory Books. After this, they learned how to use the Paint program to draw pictures for their timeline project. We will return to the computer lab tomorrow to continue the project.
Morning recess was followed by Inner Explorer. The students practiced being comfortably quiet. Then it was time for ASL. Ask your child to teach you some of the new words Ms. Fink introduced today!
The specials class of the day was STEAM. Back in 104, the boys and girls recorded 2-digit subtraction using the standard algorithm. In social studies, they were introduced to the flying fox, a bat found in Australia (and other parts of the world). They learned how baby bats are helped in special bat hospitals when their mothers can't take care of them. We watched flying foxes on a web cam from a bat sanctuary. The students then began making a bat craft. We will hang the completed bats in our classroom--upside down of course!
We will learn more about the animals of Australia tomorrow.
