Happy Pi Day! The boys and girls were introduced to the number pi and learned a song about it.
The Question of the Day was: Have you ever found a four leaf clover? Apparently 18 first graders have done so. What a lucky group!
The boys and girls wrote about wishes for themselves and others for morning work. After this, they took part in a collaborative art project. The individual papers will be put together to create a poster of a shamrock.
We read "The Land of Nod" again. The students shared some of their experiences in the land of Nod, wrote how they would feel about visiting it again, and drew strange food that might be found there.
This week's handwriting lesson focused on the letters x and z. We have now covered all the lowercase D'Nealian letters. After recess, we practiced deep belly breathing.
During math, the boys and girls solved problems involving 2-digit addition by using bar models as the "draw a diagram" strategy.
Following P.E.., we read the book When Clay Sings, discussed past previous experiences with pottery, and completed a diagram about the size of rocks.
We stayed in Japan during for social studies today. The students learned about darumas, another symbol of perseverance. Remember: Seven times you may fall, but eight times you will rise up again.
