The first graders took an exciting trip to the Field Museum today. They viewed a 3D movie about Sue the t-Rex, visited Maximo the Titanosaur, toured the Evolving Planet exhibit, said hello to Stella Dino's relative in the Hall of Dinosaurs, admired Sue, and explored other exhibit areas. Ask your child for details! You can also ask your child if he/she met the following behavior expectations while on the trip: walking feet, inside voices, staying with the group, wearing/carrying own coat, and having an active brain.
Back at school, the boys and girls played outside and then wrote in their student planners. They explored sounds and feelings during our Inner Explorer session. The first graders also shared highlights of the day with each other. After this, we checked out the Unit 23 spelling words. The words are all short one-syllable words, but they are all homophones. It is important to know what each word means! Finally, we ended the day by reading the book The Field Mouse and the Dinosaur Named Sue.
Tomorrow, the first graders will write about the trip to the Field Museum. Each student will work independently to write his/her own chapter for his/her field trip book. Remembering details about what they did, saw, and learned will be important I will provide the structure for the writing, but the students will provide the content.
