Happy Friday! The first graders began the day with an Arithmagon paper. We talked about different strategies that could be used to solve the puzzles. After this, the boys and girls took the Unit 22 spelling test. The super bonus word was pedestrian.
Alexandra shared her Student of the Week board. We learned that she likes to spend time in nature with her family, she has visited many places in Europe, and one of her dreams is to meet a unicorn.
Civics and Library were the specials classes of the day. The first graders also decorated "I Love Writing" crowns to wear later in the day, and practiced addition with regrouping. They also took a ride on the relaxation train during our Inner Explorer session.
The much anticipated event of the day was Meet the Authors! The boys and girls were super excited to share their 100 Page Books with a wider audience. First, they retrieved their books, settled into their special spots, put on their crowns, and waited for their first customers. The fifth grade buddies spent some quality time reading the books, and being read to, by their little buddies. After this, parents began to arrive and the excitement continued. We had a fabulous turnout! Even Ms. Miller stopped by to meet the authors! Thank you, parents, for supporting the first grade writers, researchers, observers, and thinkers!
We will visit the Field Museum on Monday, March 11. Please send your child with a (disposable) bag lunch. Also, unless there is a freak snowstorm over the weekend, boots can be kept at home.
