The Question of the Day was: Would you like a pet monkey? Morning work was a quick Cat in the Hat paper and more 100 Piece Puzzle Time. Ask your child if his/her group finished the puzzle or is close to finishing the puzzle!
The super bonus word for the Unit 21 spelling test was inquisitive. After the test, Ian shared his Student of the Week board. We learned that he would like to be a superhero, one of his talents is reading, and he likes going to the cabin at Kangaroo Lake.
Beginning this week, I have added brief daily sessions to practice mindfulness to our schedule. Today, was our third day using Inner Explorer. This will typically take place after morning recess. Ask your child about this. You may wish to add it to your routines at home as well.
Tomorrow is Dr. Seuss's birthday, so today we invited the kindergarten class to come across the hall and join us for a webinar about the famous author. Kenn Nesbitt shared information about Dr. Seuss and his books with us. You may wish to check out his awesome poetry website. After participating in the webinar, the first graders showed the kindergarteners how to follow steps to draw the Cat in the Hat. Finally, we read The Sneetches and The Zax. Let's remember to be inclusive and flexible!
We change desk spots every month. Today, the boys and girls helped me do this by moving their own desks to new places. We also mixed things up on the rug. We'll see how the new arrangement works. The goal is for everyone to be in a spot where he/she can concentrate, participate, and learn.
A new month also means a new set of events to look forward to in school. The boys and girls filled out their March Calendar of Events and took them home. We ended the day with an introduction to Asia, our continent of the month. We learned that many first graders have personal connections to this continent.
Have a great weekend!
