Happy Friday! The Question of the Day was: Do you like to play in the sand? After unpacking, the boys and girls continued working on the Dogman chapter for their field trip books. The specials classes of the day were PE and ASL. The super bonus word on the Unit 21 spelling test was solar system.
Irais shared her Student of the Week board. We learned that her favorite food is mac and cheese, she swam with a dolphin, and a dream of hers is to be a singer.
In recognition of Women's History month we read Helen's Big World: The Life of Helen Keller. The boys and girls also examined the braille alphabet.
During math, the students applied place value concepts when using a break apart strategy for 2-digit addition. For example:
46 40 + 6
+ 37 30 + 7
70 + 13 = 83 (Think: 70 + 10 + 3)
Following an afternoon recess break, we started an investigation involving sand and water. Each student received a vial with some sand in it. Water and lids were added. Then the shaking began! We will check the vials next week to see if we notice anything any changes.
Towards the end of the day, the students received a tour of the Asia sections of our classroom. They then used their Map Champ Atlas books to learn more about our continent of the month. Finally, the boys and girls used "how to draw" guides to practice drawing the characters of Dog Man and Li'l Petey.
Have a wonderful weekend!
