Happy Monday! The Question of the Day was: Would you like to visit Africa? The boys and girls worked together on their 100 piece jigsaw puzzles for morning work. During this time, the students also added stamps and stickers to the Africa pages of their passports After this, we examined the Unit 21 spelling words.
In celebration of Read Across America Day, each first grader chose a chapter book to take home. Happy reading! The table groups continued working on another task from the hundredth day of school. They looked for interesting words in magazines to cut out and glue to their 100 Word Boxes.
Following a recess break, the boys and girls received their new math workbooks. Chapter Four focuses on two-digit addition. After a show-what-you-know, the students finished the 100 Chart Puzzles they started on Day 100. Then, we spent time creating March calendars to take home. There are many exciting events taking place this month!
In the afternoon, the boys and girls attended STEAM class. They then enjoyed the book Anansi and the Moss-Covered Rock. After listening to the story, the students then used copies of the book to act it out themselves. Ask for the one-person version of the tale at home!
Finally, we had a wonderful Taste of Africa to round out the day. The students enjoyed a variety of tasty treats and everyone tried something new. The puff puffs and joloff were both popular food items. Ask your child what he/she enjoyed the most! As part of the event, the boys and girls also played mancala with each other. Have fun playing the game at home now!
We will begin learning about our new continent of the month tomorrow!
