Happy Friday! The boys and girls began the day with a reading passage and coloring page about Ebenezer Scrooge. Later, we reviewed the description of the trip to see "A Christmas Carol" that we wrote yesterday. Each student then received a copy of the piece and chose the ideas they wished to include in their individual field trip book chapters. They circled their selections and began the rewriting process.
The Question of the Day was: Would you like to visit the Amazon rain forest? We continued our study of the Amazon by reading The Kapok Tree and completing a map activity sheet. The boys and girls have copies of the book to share with you this weekend if time permits.
Eloise shared her Student of the Week board. We learned that she loves spending time with her family, she is a successful rock wall climber, and she would like to be a vet when she grows up.
The specials classes of the day were ASL and P.E. The super bonus word on the Unit 10 spelling test was lightning. During math, we continued exploring counting patterns, this time with numbers up to 1,000. Just for fun, we read the book The Penguin Who Wanted to Be Different.
During science, we revisited our preliminary investigation of liquids from yesterday. We completed and checked the chart of liquid properties. The photos below show examples of transparent, translucent, and opaque liquids. Ask your child to identify which is which! The students were also introduced to the concept of turbidity and shown a model of a secchi disk. We ended the class by wondering if liquids can have the properties of sinking or floating like solids can. I told the class we can explore this if they can figure out a way we can do so in class. They began sharing ideas, but we will delve more into this possible investigation next week!
