Happy Wednesday! The Question of the Day was: Do you have any dolls made from wood? Morning work was a continuation of our fox experiences from yesterday. The boys and girls received step by step directions for drawing a fox. They also received the sleeping fox activity sheets. The picture above shows the drawings the students decided to hang up in the classroom.
After our morning meeting, we shared some of the Flat Stanley mail that has made it back to us. We still have some reports sent via email to look at together. Following recess, we worked on the D'Nealian lowercase letters w and y.
The specials classes of the day were P.E. and Financial Literacy. In the latter, Ms. K presented a lesson about saving and spending. Ask your child about the book Rock, Brock, and the Savings Shock.
In the afternoon, a guest teacher monitored with the class while I assessed students on their Middle of the Year reading skills. Some students were taking a dance lesson while the others worked on incomplete items in their daily folders. I will usually pull the students out into the hall during their specials classes to complete the assessments.
We now have a Thousand Scroll, not just a hundred chart, in our classroom! We looked at it to see how the number patterns continued throughout the hundreds. The students extended the number patterns by counting on by tens or hundreds.
Finally, in social studies/reading, we enjoyed the book The Littlest Matryoshka and looked at a set of nesting dolls from Russia. The students will begin creating their own nesting dolls tomorrow.
