Happy Tuesday! The Question of the Day was: Have you ever read a newspaper? The boys and girls received a special edition newspaper about Abraham Lincoln to read for morning work.
We checked out the words in the Unit 19 spelling list after our morning meeting. We then read the book Presidents' Day by Anne Rockwell to learn about the four presidents shown on Mt. Rushmore. Ask your child to name those presidents.
During math, we focused on solving problems involving equal groups using the "act it out" strategy. Students drew pictures to act out the problems.
P.E. was the specials class of the day. We also visited the computer lab to take a reading test. This is something new the first grade teachers are trying.
In science, the first graders examined their volcanic rocks and created another observation sheet with information about them. They also watched a brief video about volcanoes. We will move on to river rocks next.
Finally, during social studies, the boys and girls enjoyed the books Bill and Pete and Bill and Pete Go Down the NIle as an amusing introduction to learning about Egypt. Ask your child about crocodile toothbrushes!
Parents, please check home folders for notes about volunteering for Day 100 and/or food for Day 100. Thank you!
We will explore a variety of African fabrics tomorrow!
