The Question of the Day was: Do you know who the sixteenth president of the United States was? Morning work was a phonics activity sheet. Following this, we began a new reading book: Esio Trot by Roald Dahl. Ask your child about Mr. Hoppy, Mrs. Silver, and Alfie!
The specials classes of the day were Library and Financial Literacy. The boys and girls were excited that Ms. Kovarski read them a book that took place in Tanzania: My Rows and Piles of Coins.
During math, we reviewed the use of bar models to show addition and subtraction. We also practiced writing equations using a square to represent an unknown number. As part of this, we noticed that more than one equation may be used to solve a problem.
In the afternoon, we learned about Abraham Lincoln. After reading Abe Lincoln's Hat, the boys and girls assembled their own hat-shaped biographies of Lincoln. The first graders also compared their heights to a life-size cutout of the president. Another fun activity was seeing how big Lincoln's shoe was compared to their shoes.
We will go to Lifeline Theatre tomorrow. Students should bring a bag lunch to eat in school after we return from the play.
