After beginning the day with a word search about school words, the first graders participated in a spelling lesson. They learned how to put words in alphabetical order and then practiced this skill with this week’s short a and short i spelling words.
We then went outside to the butterfly garden where the boys and girls used collection buckets to gather natural items for a project. Later in the day, the sticks, grasses, seeds, and leaves were used to create individual “nature names.” The projects will soon be on display in the classroom. Ask your child to describe his/her creation!
We also continued making observations about our chrysanthemum plant. There was great excitement when eagle-eyed first graders spotted two tiny caterpillars on the plant. This led to the creation of a list of wonderings about the plant and the caterpillars.
Other events of the day included receiving a desk plan, going to P.E., sharing how to greet others in different languages, and beginning a mini-book about saying hello.
The first graders’ first financial literacy class will take place tomorrow.
