The Question of the Day was: Would you like to have teeth like a beaver? Morning work was a worksheet to practice using the vowel-consonant-e spelling words. After our morning meeting, we returned to the a project we began before the strike. We had already written a description of our trip to the firehouse. Today, the boys and girls rewrote it and added their own details. These writing pieces will become the first chapter in our field trip books. An exciting part of this activity was wearing a firefighter's helmet and trying on a real firefighter's coat. Ask your child to tell you how it felt!
The first graders also made their November calendar of events, finished their A House is a House for Me posters, reviewed shapes and fractions, and learned how to write the D'Nealian letters c, e, and s. The specials class of the day was Art. During science, the boys and girls made final observations of our brassica plants, completed their Growing Wheat in Straws observation sheets by adding a wheat seed, and planted spider plant babies. Some of the spider plant babies we planted came from a spider plant one of our fifth grade buddies had planted when he was in first grade!
We will celebrate Pumpkin Day tomorrow. Let's wear orange to get into the spirit of the day!
