The Question of the Day was: Have you filled someone’s bucket yet today? The boys and girls finished (!) their bucket filler poster for morning work. It was great to see bucket filling in action as they helped each other glue down their buckets.
During reading/writing, we took a closer look at the names of the ducklings in Make Way for Ducklings. The students then followed the pattern in the book to write a list of names based on their own names. We also spent time on the First Grade Memory Books. Today we wrote about what happened on the first day of school. The next chapters will all be about what happened in each month. We are just a tad behind on this and will write about the month of September next week.
The super bonus word on the Unit 4 Spelling Test was horseshoe. Ms. Fink reviewed the ASL alphabet with the class. Ask your child to finger-spell the week’s spelling words as another way to study them! Henry shared his Student of the Week board. We learned that he wants to be a doctor when he grows up, he has been strawberry picking with his family, and one of his talents is swimming.
The students completed the Beginning of the Year Math REACH task today. We did get in some geometry by reading the book The Greedy Triangle. More shape work is planned for next week!
Today’s social studies lesson continued our study of different types of communities. We read and discussed the book Country Kid, City Kid and watched a short video about urban, suburban, and rural communities.
I will be working in the school garden starting at 9:00 on Sunday, October 6. Stop by as a family if you would like to participate in an unofficial school service project to keep Bell beautiful!
