Happy 175th Day of School! The first graders chose from their remaining insect and butterfly activity sheets for morning work. After the remote and in-person learners said hello to each other, we completed our morning business. We learned that the RMS Titanic was 175 feet high. The boys and girls then responded to the questions in the morning message seen above.
The first grade authors spent part of the morning and part of the afternoon sharing their autobiographies with each other. Today they chose from the following chapters: When They Were Born, Their Baby Years, or Their Toddler/Preschool Years. Just as with yesterday's Then and Now photo slideshow, the boys and girls enjoyed hearing and seeing what their classmates were like when they were itty-bitty people! In addition to sharing with the whole group, the in=person learners also looked at each other's autobiographies during breaks and DEAR Time.

The capital letters X and Y were the focus of this week's D'Nealian handwriting lesson. The students also reviewed all the capital letters.
During math, we compared the customary and metric units of measurement. The students then estimated and measured using centimeters.
Other activities of the day included two read aloud stories: the sweet Butterfly House and the silly Once There Was a Bull...Frog. The former was a follow-up to the release of our painted lady butterflies yesterday. The latter was a companion book to our current spelling unit which features compound words. The first graders also completed a spelling practice paper and began watching The Magic School Bus episode "The Butterfly and the Bog Beast."
