Today was the 160th Day of first grade. We gathered together for our morning meeting at 8:15. In addition to learning that there are about 160 cashews in a pound, we also read the book Tacky in Trouble.
As noted in the morning message, today was SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Day at Bell School. During the first session with me, the students watched the Pixar animated short film For the Birds. We then watched it again, this time pausing often to share what we thought the characters were saying or thinking at different points in the movie. Ask your child about it!
Following a break, the students were shown a slideshow presentation about FriendSHIPs. I encourage you to review it again with your child at home.
P.E. and Lunch were followed by an afternoon of SEL sessions from which to choose. During closing circle, we ended our day by talking about today's special classes--and other things. Ask your child to tell you about the three sessions he/she took part in today!
Several students took their EOY reading assessments individually with me today. I was the only one in the classroom; however, I had the company of a crew of men with pick axes, shovels, and chainsaws in the backyard. If you like climbing tall trees and making noise, there might be a job opening for you with them one day!
