The super bonus word for the Unit 25 Spelling Test was Himalayas. During the test, I mentioned the size of the letters in several of the words. For example, supper has two letters that fall and the rest are small. In addition to looking over the spelling of the words with your child, please review them together to see if the letters are written the proper size.
We worked together and independently on a variety of activities related to Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day throughout the day. Morning work involved finding antonyms and identifying the second meaning of words. After rereading or watching a read-aloud version of the book, the students described how Alexander felt about certain things or people in the story. Later, the boys and girls wrote a letter to Alexander in which they gave him advice about what to do if you are having a bad day. If time permitted, students also had two extra activity sheets about Alexander.
During math, the first graders rewrote horizontal math problems vertically in the standard format. The goal of today's lesson was to practice lining up the digits in the numbers so that ones were placed directly over ones and tens directly over tens. Give your child the following two numbers to subtract. Have them check their spacing with my example below.
The first graders also continued taking turns enthusiastically reading the Terrible Stories they wrote. We will hear the rest of the stories next week.
Parents, please check the April 12 learning plan when it is posted. Thank you very much!
