The Question of the Day was: Did you enjoy Around the World Day yesterday? The boys and girls then each completed a map puzzle of the continents for morning work. If your child has not labeled the continents yet, see if he/she can do so this weekend. During the morning meeting, I introduced the Pajama Drive service project to the class. If we meet our class goal of 30 pajamas by December 4, we will celebrate with a pajama party!
The super bonus word on the Unit 8 spelling test was opportunity. We read the silly book Dude! and practiced saying the word with different emotions. Art and ASL were the two specials classes of the day. We also went to the computer lab. Ms. Newberry went over the computer lab rules and the students practiced their mouse skills in preparation for our shapes powerpoint project.
The first grade writers continued working on their Leaf Creature projects today. They picked up wherever they left off yesterday. Some students continued writing their ideas, some read their work and made changes, some used reference materials in the room to add to their writing, and many shared their writing with a friend. We practiced giving compliments and suggestions. Most students started or finished rewriting their Leaf Creature stories on fancy paper. Ask your child about his/her story!
We a;lso reflected on the school events that took place in October. Next week, the boys and girls will choose from the ideas shared today to write the October chapters for their memory books. Finally, we read the book The Goat in the Rug. This story about a Navajo weaver will be the focus of several activities next week.
