Happy Friday! The Question of the Day was: Have you ever read a biography? Morning Work was a find and color paper. Following our morning meeting, the boys and girls took the Unit 19 spelling test. The super bonus word was surface. We also continued long vowel lessons in our phonics books.
Alex shared his Student of the Week board. We learned that his favorite animal is a jellyfish, he was lucky to have a butterfly land on his head, and he helped Flat Stanley climb to the top of a lighthouse.
The specials class of the day was P.E. During math, the first graders completed the Chapter 3 test. We read Dave's Down-to-Earth Rock Shop during story time. You might want to take a quick family field trip to Evanston to actually visit the rock store and museum!
We took our own (virtual) field trip this afternoon. It was exciting to visit the Museum of the Rockies in Montana to take part in this behind-the-scenes program: Dinosaur Dentists-- Exploring the Teeth of the Mesozoic Era. Ask your child for details!
Our school day concluded with a group of guest speakers who joined us for Black History Month. Thank you to Evelyn's mother, Eloise's parents, and our new assistant principal, Mr. Ball for teaching us about Harriet Tubman, the underground railroad, and the secret messages in quilts. Ask your child to explain the meaning behind the quilt squares on the craft he/she began in class.
