Happy Friday! The Question of the Day was: Have you ever rolled down a hill? Morning work followed a discussion about the power of words. The students wrote examples of times someone said something to make them wilt or bloom. Ask your child to share his/her thoughts about this!
The first spelling test of the year was a fairly drama-free event, The super bonus word was listen. A mini lesson about vowels and consonants followed recess. The boys and girls then compared their names to that of the title character in Chrysanthemum. They also created paper name strips which were used to create a flag for 104.
The math lesson of the day focused on picture graphs. We will use data collected about our names to create a picture graph next week.
After a long lunch recess, we reviewed school and classroom rules with an emphasis on following directions quickly and listening when the teacher is talking. During science, we read the book From Seed to Plant by Gail Gibbons. The students then created a plant model to illustrate the needs of plants.
The arrival of another mystery box proved very intriguing. We all wondered what could be inside! Upon opening the box, we discovered a container of adult ladybugs had been delivered to our door!
Finally, the boys and girls shared more postcards/brochures and created art with Ms. Pearlmutter.
Parents, if possible, please return the Room 104 volunteer form to school by Monday. Also, I neglected to mention the Scholastic and Highlights order forms in your Curriculum Night packet. Please return the Highlights form even if you are not interested in ordering anything. We will get free items for the classroom! I placed one Scholastic Reading Club order form in the packet. Another will be sent home on Monday. If you go online, you will find an even wider selection of books. Please submit your orders online or send them to school by Friday, September 20. If nothing strikes your fancy this time, there will be another set of order forms distributed in October. Thank you!
Have a great weekend!
