Happy Monday! The Question of the Day was: Do you like seeing holiday lights? Morning work was an odd numbers practice paper.
Following our morning meeting, the Flat Stanley Factory opened for business. The boys and girls colored blank Flat Stanley outlines then cut them out. After this, each student folded his/her Stanley as well as a letter of explanation and information sheet. These items were placed in their pre-addressed envelopes and sealed. I dropped them in the mailbox after school, so the Flat Stanley journeys have begun!
After morning recess, we had our final discussion about our first Junior Great Book story. The students then responded in writing to the following prompt: If you were the country mouse, would you or would you not ever go back to the city? During math, the first graders solved place value problems using their understanding that 10 tens is equivalent to 1 hundred.
The specials classes of the day were music and civics. Ask your child about the book Harold B. Wigglebottom and the Power of Giving: A Christmas Story We also read My Two Holidays: A Hanukkah and Christmas Story before sharing some of our holiday traditions. Finally, the fifth grade buddies came to 104 to help the first graders learn about Machu Picchu in Peru.
There will be a substitute teacher in Room 104 tomorrow.
