Happy Pajama Day! The Question of the Day was: Are you wearing a robe or pajamas? Morning work involved designing the perfect pair of pajamas and/or working on a pajama word search.
After discussing rules for keeping stuffed friends in the classroom, we collected data about Pajama Day. The boys and girls created bar graphs showing how many pajamas did or did not have patterns. They did the same to show how many stuffed friends did or did not have names. We also celebrated our Pajama Drive success by posing for photos with some of the pajamas we collected. Later, we read two books about pajamas including a Fancy Nancy book.
Today's writing lesson focused on similes, The boys and girls were tasked with comparing their stuffed animals' body parts to something else. They were also encouraged to stretch out their ideas in order to paint a better picture with their words. I modeled this with the feet of my stuffed animal. This was how my writing grew:
Many students jumped right on board with developing their ideas and using their imaginations. When I asked for volunteers to share one of their ideas, the first three friends I selected gave the following responses:
Others found creating the comparisons to be challenging. I will send the stuffed animal poems home tomorrow so your child can share his/her efforts with you. On another note, only 10 of the 27 students began their sentences with capital letters. This should be a well established practice by now. Please reinforce this skill at home if necessary. Thank you!
The specials class of the day was P.E. Due to the holiday market taking place in the gym, P.E. will probably be in the classroom tomorrow.
According to some reliable sources, there were some issues during indoor recess yesterday. As a result, after Quiet Time today, we took time to revisit what it means to be kind to other people, things, and places. We also discussed what being responsible in the classroom looks like. Finally, the students were given extra time to work on the morning work assignment from yesterday.
We continued our exploration of liquids with a demonstration to show that liquids flow to take the shape of their container. The students then drew what this looked like. Ask your child about the pictures posted below! Lastly, during social studies, we learned more about maps and South America by using our Map Champ Atlas books.
The Bell School Holiday Market takes place tomorrow!
