The Question of the Day was: Would you want Millie to deliver mail to your house? Ask your child what he/she said and why!
After completing a spelling practice paper for morning work, the boys and girls learned about a new writing project: writing teaching books! Today, they each chose a topic and told a classmate five things about that topic. They then wrote down their ideas and drew sketches to go along with them. The junior teachers are off to a great start!
During reading, we finished Flat Stanley. Ask your child what Arthur's good idea turned out to be. Before heading to lunch, we completed the Chapter 1 Review in our math book. There will be a math test tomorrow. It wouldn't hurt to look over these pages tonight as the math test follows the same format as the review pages.
Due to the cold weather, recess times were inside today. The students read, drew, wrote, worked on a puzzle, explored items from the South America and matter tables, played market, and chatted. Let's work on stopping and cleaning up a bit faster though!
We read Olive, the Other Reindeer during Quiet Time. After this, we explored one of the properties of liquids: their surface is always level to the ground. This was a bit tricky for some to see and/or grasp. The students tilted bottles of liquids to see what the liquid looked like in different positions. They then attempted to draw what the liquid looked like. We did end up with some apparently magical liquids! See the pictures below. You may wish to try this activity again with liquids at home to see what happens.

Art and computer were the two specials classes of the day. During computer, the boys and girls learned how to use the shift key to make circles out of ovals and to select more than one item at a time. They also learned how to copy and paste to quickly draw many shapes.
There will be a substitute teacher in the classroom tomorrow. Please remember to send book fair money in a baggy or envelope clearly marked with the amount enclosed and your child's name. Thank you!
