Hurrah! We are back in school again! Thank you for all your support, understanding, and patience during the eleven school days the CPS teachers were on strike. It is good to be back!
I loved having first grade visitors stop by to say hello while we were on the picket line. It was also wonderful to see so many of you at the Room 104 Halloween Party yesterday. I feel fortunate to have such a great group of involved families this school year.
The Question of the Day was: Are you happy to be back at school? Being home for so long, coming back on the day after Halloween, and experiencing the first snow of the season was a lot to take in for my little friends. Add wearing costumes, as well as rehearsing/performing on stage to the mix and we had a day that was far from routine!
We really had to go with the flow with the schedule today. The boys and girls began with some Halloween math papers to settle back into school. They also listened to Halloween stories and shared Halloween jokes. A big part of the morning was spent rehearsing their Halloween songs in the auditorium and watching the other classrooms do the same.
Other events of the day included making Halloween costume books, reading Halloween books, and creating haunted house pictures. Thanks to all the families who were able to join us on such short notice for the Halloween assembly in the afternoon. I think it was quite impressive that it came together so well! Ms. Prescott is an incredible music teacher and the students responded to her instructions during rehearsal in a commendable manner.
The last big event of the day was the costume/winter coat parade on the south playground. We stopped by our fifth grade buddies for a quick hello as well.
Please check backpack mail for information about Pumpkin Day tasting and a field trip permission slip. Since our field trip to Goebbert's Farm had to be cancelled,, the $23 fee collected from you will be used for this trip. Each student only owes $1 for this trip, not $24.
Also, I realize there may not have been much Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF action yesterday, but please return the orange boxes to school next week. Thank you for helping with the donations. Thinking of others in need and taking action to make change should always be encouraged!
Have a great weekend! We will strive to really get back into the swing of things next week. There will be a structure building activity, a field trip, Pumpkin Day, and a day off to keep us on our toes!
