The Question of the Day was: Do you have smoke alarms in your house? After taking care of their morning business, the boys and girls worked on a fire safety activity sheet. It was almost time to go to the neighborhood firehouse for our first field trip of the year! Before leaving, we had time for ASL class and the Unit 5 spelling test. The super bonus word was encourage.
Our trip to the firehouse was a soggy one as we walked in the rain and through puddles on the way there and on the way back. Fortunately, the temperature outside was still warm! The firefighters showed us their gear and equipment, told us about fire safety, let us climb on the engine, and took us on a tour of the firehouse. Ask your child for details about the trip!
Following lunch and indoor recess, the boys and girls were surprised by two new mystery boxes. The first bin contained a temporary visitor to 104: a rather impressive crayfish. The second bin contained several tiny newcomers to the classroom: tadpoles that we hope to see change into adult African water frogs.
The specials class of the day was art. Stella also shared her Student of the Week board. We learned that she wants to be a paleontologist, she has been whale watching, and she plays the violin.
During writing, the boys and girls prepared blank books to use as field trip books. They numbered the pages and add the title, copyright, dedication, and contents pages. There will be a chapter for each field trip we take. We will write about the firehouse trip on Tuesday.
Have a wonderful three-day weekend!
