Happy 50th Day of School! We began the day with a fun turkey and pie two=person play. As the students reread the play with a partner, their acting skills began to shine! Why not join your child in reading the script?
After our morning meeting, we worked on a special writing project. All will be revealed later. The students have been instructed not to tell you anything about it YET!
In the afternoon, we took closer looks at the Native American artifacts on loan from the Field Museum. We also examined a loom. This was followed by a weaving project. Unlike Glenmae in The Goat in the Rug, we do not have a goat readily available to weave into a rug, so we made paper rugs. The first graders used strips of construction paper and calendar pages depicting nature scenes from North America. Weaving was new to some students. It was good to see effort and perseverance in the completion of this activity. The projects will be on display in the hallway in a couple weeks. Get ready to be impressed!
We will learn about the history of Thanksgiving, and begin our new math chapter next week.
