Happy Day after Presidents' Day! The Question of the Day was: Would you like to be the president of the United States one day? After checking out the latest Scholastic Reading Club book order forms, we read the book Presidents' Day which focused on the presidents depicted on Mt. Rushmore. Ask your child to tell who they are and to name something important about each of them.
MIla shared her Student of the Week board. We learned that she would like to be a teacher, she takes gymnastics, and one of her talents is doing math.
The first graders also spent part of the morning on a variety of works in progress, especially chapters in their field trip books. Then, we read the book Millions, Billions, and Trillions and practiced reading numbers with up to 12 digits. Each student also created a part of the number googol. The parts will be put together to make one long number. Ask your child for details about this!
The specials class of the day was Art with Ms. Pearlmutter, but the first graders also had art in 104 later in the day. The boys and girls imagined traveling in time to when they would be 100 years old. They thought about what they would look like and created pictures of themselves at 100 years old. These awesome portraits have now been added to the paper people in the hallway!
Other events of the day included Quiet Time, the Chapter 3 Math Test, and Social Studies. During the latter, we read and discussed the book Galimoto. I would love it if my first graders designed and built their own push/pull toys!
We also had recess outside today. Parents, please remember to send your child to school wearing boots, but with a change of shoes to be left in school (or taken home each night if you prefer). Thank you!
Tomorrow is the 100th Day of School! We are all very excited about reaching this milestone and celebrating it all day tomorrow!
