The Question of the Day was: Do you think it will snow before the end of the school day? Morning work was to continue working on the snowman writing pieces from yesterday. This was followed by the Unit 16 spelling test. The super bonus word was rattlesnake.
Tyler shared his Student of the Week board. We learned that he wants to be an engineer when he grows up, one of his talents is swimming, and he is really interested in Pokemon. We were doing so well with our work pace this morning that we had time for a bonus story: It's Mine! by Leo Lionni.
During reading, the boys and girls sequenced the steps taken in order for Anna to get her coat. They have brought home the projects to share with you. Before going to lunch, the first graders took the Unit 2 math test.
The specials class of the day was library. We then moved on to science/reading/social studies. The boys and girls continued to work on the Russian nesting dolls they started yesterday. While they did that, students were called up two at a time for another project. They dyed paper coats using food coloring. Just like Anna, we ended up with colorful coats, not red, but colorful nonetheless!
We ended the day with the Eastern European folktale Salt is Sweeter Than Gold. We will finish the story on Tuesday.
Enjoy the long weekend!
