Today's morning work was to take a bag of cubes and build something! After this, the boys and girls completed a spelling practice paper and played Memory games with words/pictures from We Found a Hat. Then it was time to go to Lifeline Theatre to see the play based on the book. Ask your child to compare/contrast the play and the book!
When we returned to school, the first graders ate lunch, completed the day's homework page in their student planners, and wrote about the play. The students once again became theatre critics by assigning the play a certain number of stars and choosing their favorite scenes, characters, and parts of the play. The boys and girls supported their opinions with details from the play.
The specials class of the day was Art. After this, we ended the day with a social studies class that focused on Italy. The students looked at pictures of famous places in Italy and then enjoyed an Italian folktale retold by Tomie dePaola. The Mysterious Giant of Barletta has quite a surprise in the plot. The students brought their copies of the book home to reread and ask their parents to share what they thought would happen at a critical point in the story. Enjoy the book together!
The boys and girls will participate in an exciting event tomorrow. Speakers from the Junior Achievement organization will give presentations to all Bell School students from Kindergarten to fifth grade.
Parents, there will be a substitute teacher in the classroom tomorrow while I attend a professional development workshop offsite.
