Happy Monday! The Question of the Day was: Have you ever felt jealous? A discussion of the responses to this question was followed by the humorous book It's Not Fair! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Ask your child about the book!
The morning work activity was a challenging word creation sheet. We then examined the Unit 14 spelling words which either have a soft c or soft g sounds. We also reviewed words with the short o sound during phonics.
During reading. we read "Under the Lemon Moon" again. The students wrote and shared questions they had about the characters or actions that took place in the story. They then focused on one particular question: Why didn't Rosalinda say anything to the Night Man when she saw him taking her lemons? Ask your child what he/she thought about this.
Today's math lesson continued our exploration of three digit numbers. Later in the day, the first graders made holiday cards for their parents. Finally, the fifth grade buddies arrived to help their little buddies learn about a famous place in Peru. The big buddies read an article about Machu Picchu to the first graders and then helped them respond to questions about what they had read. Ask your child to tell you about Machu Picchu!
The Bell Walk prizes are being delivered this week. Some students received their items today. More are on the way! The Middle of the Year TRC reading assessments have also started this week. Some students read with Ms. Clancy, our reading specialist, today. The rest of the students will read with me this week or when we return from winter break.
Taste of South America will take place tomorrow!
