After completing a map activity sheet about South America, the first graders took the Unit 13 Spelling Test. The super bonus word was grouchy. Following this, Micah shared his Student of the Week board. We learned that his favorite subject is reading, he loves having pets, and he had a pyramid birthday cake.
The boys and girls designed mini Flat Stanleys to mail to different places around the world. They each placed a Stanley in their pre-addressed envelopes along with a letter of introduction and information form. Students who did not finish or who had more than one destination to send Flat Stanley were given the papers necessary to finish this activity at home.
Following morning recess, Mrs. Hensley taught another lesson in civics to the class. The second specials class of the day library. It is great to see students expanding their reading selections and/or making book/author/series reading clubs with each other!
We reviewed the soup mix activity during science and students shared strategies that led to success in sorting the items. After this, the students used what they had learned about using screens to sort pictorial mixtures of beads. Finally, the boys and girls learned more about South America by using their Map Champ Atlas books.
